Are TVG and other forms of sports betting currently legal in your state?

TVG got its start back in 1999 as a channel on cable TV. It has subsequently become one of the first legal online betting sites for horse races available to US players.

However, sports betting (on such sports as football, baseball, basketball, and hockey, along with many other sports) remained completely illegal in all but four US states until May 2018. In fact, in the four states that offered it (Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, and Montana), with the sole exception of Nevada, the options were extremely restricted. All of the remaining states were prohibited from offering sports betting in any form by the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA). People in those states who wanted to bet on sports could only do so illegally through offshore sportsbooks or local bookmakers.

Finally, on May 14, 2018, and only following a prolonged legal battle, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the ruling of the lower courts and declared PASPA unconstitutional. The Supreme Court left all decisions up to each individual state about whether and to what extent to make sports betting legal in their state and how it would operate.

The repeal of PASPA changed the whole course of sports betting in this country, paving the way for one state after another to implement legalized sports betting. The resounding success of one of the first states to act, New Jersey, became a model that other states sought to emulate.
